The market has steadily gained ground in the current trades following fresh buying in select old economy stocks, and also due to recovery in select heavyweights from their early lows.

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 21 points at 4,028. Buying in old and new economy stocks has pushed the index further, and is now up 31 points at 4,038.
The Sensex closed with a gain of 56 points at 3,978, while the Nifty advanced 33 points to 1,281.
Among Sensex firms, Tata Steel, HCL Tech, UltraTech Cement, Bharat Electronics, Sun Pharma and Tata Consultancy Services were the major gainers. However, Axis Bank, Titan, Maruti and Tata Motors were among the laggards.

Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Yes Bank, TechM, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel, Maruti, Asian Paints and Hero MotoCorp - rising up to 5.30 per cent. The 50-share Nifty ended 85.65 points, or 0.79 per cent, higher at 10,948.25 points.

The Sensex is moving on a steady note in current deals, and is up 44 points at 5,877. The Nifty is up 15 points to 1,850.
After witnessing a free fall yesterday, the Sensex has commenced firm with strong gains seen in select old and new economy stocks.
